SOE President John Smedley said that the sequel to the MMO shooter Planetside will land in Edge 2011.

While getting the tour of the Sony Online Denver studio apartment, I was able to snag John the Divin Smedley to chat for a couple of transactions on the land of the gaming industry. We talked about SOE's biggest competitor, Blizzard, and how other MMO companies react to what the WoW-Lord does, also as what can be knowing from the demise of APB's Realtime Worlds. Just when I asked him to confirm whether the titles that I'd been asked out to Denver to control, Magic The Gathering Tactics and DC Macrocos Online, were the only games in the pipeline for SOE, Smedley born a bomb. Not only is he heavily invested in social and unplanned games, but Smedley is super excited for Sony's return to the MMOFPS music genre with the tentatively titled Planetside Close. Sony has hinted at a sequel thereupon working title before, but this is the first time that we've gotten wrap up of a release window.

"We possess a selfsame big launch future in the month of March," Smedley aforementioned. "It's a vauntingly start person triggerman franchise that we're very happy with."

I took a leap of logic and asked whether information technology was Planetside.

"Could equal," Smedley said sheepishly. "We haven't technically announced it." He then told Pine Tree State that I could read that he "hinted" that the new Planetside was imminent, which translates to 99% of a confirmation. "This is the farthest I've kaput [discussing it with the press] and the PR people are sledding to fool me."

As for why it's called Planetside Next, it appears that Smedley might experience learned something from his signature franchise. "We assume't have the official name for it. Planetside Next is good-hearted of the impermanent championship," Smedley said. "We've lettered many lessons with Everquest II , not ace of the better moves that we've ever ready-made. We should accept named it EverQuest Something. Having Everquest I and II sit happening the shelves concurrently, in hindsight, was believably not the the brightest of moves."

That's because the 2 fantasy MMOs are separate products which both have their own servers and audience. That will make up less of a job with Planetside, attributable the small number of people still playing the 7 year old game on its one remaining server. Does Smedley cerebrate that the update volition work in more players than the start indefinite did? Well, it's safe to say that he is excited about it.

"[Planetside Next] is the coolest god-damned game," Smedley aforementioned. "I'm so in love thereupon bet on."
